Did you ever have one of those dreams where you're in a record store and you're flipping through the New Arrivals bin and you find a copy of the first Raincoats album and it's shrink-wrapped -- wait, that's because it's brand-new, and I'm back in high school buying records to review for the school newspaper but that doesn't make sense because that record came out in 1979 and I don't think Rough Trade shrink-wrapped their records anyway but I'm finding more things now like singles by bands I like that I never knew about (where the heck did these come from?) and then I set the records down to flip through another bin but there are only dog-eared copies of Aerosmith records and shrink-wrapped cut-outs of that second Treat Her Right album, so I think I'm in Boston but it looks like Sounds circa 1990 with the rows and rows and rows of vinyl and album covers stapled to the walls and I look down to find my pile of records but it's gone (!) so I walk to the front counter and they greet me by name and ask me if I want everything in my hold bag (do I still have a hold bag?) but it will take awhile for them to find it so I decide to go get a cup of coffee and I sit on my couch and drink it then realize that I forgot to get my hold bag and I'm not sure how to find my way back to the store at any rate. Bummer.

Posted by: Instant Enemy on July 10, 2002 11:16 AMAw, don't mind Jon. Even if I did bump into him in my dream, I don't think we'd be too much record-buying competition for each other. (Word to the wise: pick a friend to go record shopping with who doesn't share your exact same musical tastes.)
Now I've got "Get Out Of My Dream" by The Clouds stuck in my head. Oh, and fertilejim: please do rekindle your friendship with your turntable -- you won't regret it!
Posted by: nstop on July 10, 2002 11:43 AMI had this dream where I was buying "Pablo Honey" by Radiohead for 99 cents in a record store...on vinyl...problem is, I *hate* radiohead. :/

yes. only it's not a dream. it's every other day of my waking life. and it invariably ends with, "honey, i think we should break down and buy one of those turntables they sell at yard sales, so we can listen to our vinyl records again." "no!! we already have one!!" "but it's in storage in california, dear." "my dad will send it to us--someday!!"
this conversation has been going on for years.
